Ford Opens 2015 Mustang Ordering in Europe, Sells Out in 30 Seconds

2015 Mustang 1Well, that was fast. Set to go on sale during Europe’s UEFA Champions League Final on May 24th was the 2015 Ford Mustang, and what a hit it was. Within the first 30 seconds of the 2015 Mustang going on sale, Europeans overloaded Ford with orders, completely selling out the first 500 offerings. In fact, Ford received over 9,300 order attempts before they stopped accepting requests. Sadly, the other 8,800+ people are out of luck for the time being.

Those ordering only had 90 minutes to do so (orders opened at the start of the soccer game and closed at the game’s finale) and were entered into a lottery-like format where the first enthusiasts to place their orders in each of 20 countries would have a chance at owning one of the 500 pre-order Mustangs. Ford says those fast enough at ordering who were one of the first 500 European purchasers of the 2015 Ford Mustang will be contacted “in the next few weeks” with their order confirmation, a special package and a limited edition certificate. The problem was, the information Ford provided before taking orders was vague at best and the process thereafter not clearly defined. Yeah, it turned out to be a confusing and frustrating process for many.

As one Mustang6G member put it: ” It’s BS, they could at least say in the initial email that you’ll also get informed once they know if your not one of the 500. Also, if it’s done on a first come / first serve basis as they have said, they would have known if your getting a call before they even sent out the email so what was the point of it in the first place…They will know that those of us who are crazy enough to pre-order a car before there’s even pricing are the hardcore few so there’s no need to build our hopes up.

If you were able to make it through the ordering process, not only was it unlikely that your order would then be honored, but purchasers only had two color options to choose from–a Race Red coupe or a Magnetic Silver convertible. Still, the opportunity to order a 2015 Mustang early drew orders from all 20 countries. Options were limited to having SYNC 2 connectivity and navigation system, heated and ventilated seats, Park Assist, black leather trim, chrome detailing and 19-inch alloy wheels. Buyers did however have the option of choosing the all-new 2.3L EcoBoost engine or the infamous 5.0L Coyote V8.

For now, it looks like Ford was able to secure sales of their first 500 Mustangs overseas while leaving 8,800 enthusiasts in limbo. At least those left without the lucky ticket have the option of ordering a Mustang to their preferred specifications when order banks officially open later this year.
